The First Infiltration

The First Infiltration
A hazardous approach
James Bond swims from Kuro Island, climbs the fortified sea wall, and hides his equipment in a gardener’s shed. He moves through grounds filled with poisonous plants, predatory animals, and volcanic vents.
During his survey, he witnesses two visitors die. The first is attacked by Piranha; the second deliberately enters a boiling vent.
A route discovered
Bond finds a low door beneath the castle’s bridge that may provide access on a later night. He does not yet know how to reach Blofeld safely, but the reconnaissance gives him a possible entry point.
The night is a tactical success and a moral shock. Bond has entered the enemy’s territory, but the garden itself threatens to kill him before he can reach his target.
A Hideout Compromised

A Hideout Compromised
Near discovery
Bond hides in the gardener’s shed, but Blofeld notices that its door has been left open and searches inside. His sword strikes the sacks that conceal Bond, narrowly missing the hidden agent.
Bond escapes detection, but realizes that his hiding place is compromised. He can no longer wait safely for a better opportunity.
The timetable collapses
The guards’ routine gives Bond useful information, yet Blofeld’s inspection changes the balance of the operation. The agent must act that night, with less time to prepare and greater risk of discovery.
The conflict intensifies through a small mistake rather than an open battle. Bond’s survival depends on improvisation after his carefully planned cover has nearly failed.
Captured in the Oubliette

Captured in the Oubliette
A trap beneath the floor
Bond cuts through a chain and enters the castle by a concealed cellar door. He avoids an initial man-trap, but later steps onto a pivoting section of floor that drops him into an oubliette.
The fall leaves him badly injured and unconscious. When he wakes, guards have stripped away his disguise and discovered his equipment.
The enemy closes in
Bond must abandon his Japanese miner identity and act as if he cannot understand the guards. He is brought before Blofeld and Irma Bunt, who soon recognize him.
The covert mission has become open captivity. Bond is within reach of his enemies, but also exposed to the full force of their suspicion and violence.
